چکیده

Abstract—Optimal distributed fusion assuming that sensor decision rules are given is considered. A general and computationally tractable optimal fusion rule is presented, which relies only on the joint conditional probability densities of all sensor observations and all local decision rules. It is valid for general decision systems with any sensor observations and sensor decision rules, regardless of their interdependence, and any network structure. It is also valid for -ary Bayesian decision problems and binary problems under the Neyman-Pearson criterion. Local decision rules of a sensor that are optimal for the sensor itself are also presented, which take the form of a generalized likelihood ratio test. Numerical examples are given, which reveal some interesting phenomena.

Unified fusion rules for multisensor multihypothesis network decision systems

In this paper, we present a fusion rule for distributed multihypothesis decision systems where communication patterns among sensors are given and the fusion center may also observe data. It is a specific form of the most general fusion rule, independent of statistical characteristics of observations and decision criteria, and thus, is called a unified fusion rule of the decision system. To achi...

Optimal Linear Estimation Fusion—Part IV: Optimality and Efficiency of Distributed Fusion

Abstract – This paper is concerned with the performance of distributed and centralized fusion with best linear unbiased estimation (BLUE), also known as linear minimum mean-square error (LMMSE) estimation, and optimal weighted least squares (WLS) estimation. Necessary and sufficient conditions for optimal distributed fusion rules to have identical performance as their centralized counterparts a...

Adaptive Multimodal Biometric Fusion Algorithm Using Particle Swarm

This paper introduces a new algorithm called “Adaptive Multimodal Biometric Fusion Algorithm”(AMBF), which is a combination of Bayesian decision fusion and particle swarm optimization. A Bayesian framework is implemented to fuse decisions received from multiple biometric sensors. The system’s accuracy improves for a subset of decision fusion rules. The optimal rule is a function of the error co...

Joint Optimization of Local and Fusion Rules in a Decentralized Sensor Network

Decentralized sensor networks are collections of individual local sensors that observe a common phenomenon, quantize their observations, and send this quantized information to a central processor (fusion center) which then makes a global decision about the phenomenon. Most of the existing literature in this field consider only the data fusion aspect of this problem, i.e., the statistical hypoth...

Decision Fusion Rules in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Fading Channel Statistics

The problem of fusing decisions transmitted over fading and noisy channels in a wireless sensor network is revisited. In a previous work, starting with the assumption of perfect channel knowledge, an optimal likelihood ratio (LR) based fusion rule was developed along with three suboptimum statistics. In this paper, we present a new LR based fusion rule which requires only the knowledge of chann...
